URAP REPORT ANNOUNCED: IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS, A WORLD UNIVERSITY!
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) ranked in 1st place in language, communication, and culture based on the “2014 Report of Turkish Universities in World Rankings in terms of General and Field Specific Status” conducted by URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance) Research Lab of Middle East Technical University Informatics Institute. Izmir University of Economics ranked among the first 500 universities worldwide where only 23 universities from Turkey were able to make it. IUE, one of the two foundation universities that made it in the world ranking, moved up to 6th place in studies in creative arts and writing, and history and archaeology.
DISTINCTION OF IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS IN ECONOMICS PUBLICATIONS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Economics ranked among the first 10 universities in Turkey in research in Economics, and achieved phenomenal success. According to the ranking by RePEc (Research Papers in Economics) Organization, publications of 609 academicians and economists were included, and IUE Department of Economics ranked in the 7th place with 196 publications and 107 academic studies.
IUE INVESTMENT CHAMPS RECEIVED THEIR AWARDS
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), who ranked in first place at "Inter University Investment League Portfolio Competition" held by İş Yatırım Menkul Değerler A.Ş. (IS Investment), were presented their awards by Erdal Aral, CEO of IS Investment, in Istanbul. Students of IUE Department of International Trade and Finance, Ceyhun Cihat Yıldırım, Melih Kabadayı, Eren Beksal Bektaş, and Çağın Demirağ left behind 20 groups from 6 universities and became champions. The students were awarded their championship cup and plaques at the ceremony held at IS Investment Yeniköy branch.
A NEW DIMENSION IN SEARCH AND RESCUE
Scientist from 26 countries worldwide are working to conduct search and rescue efforts based on the position of the individuals. Only one scientist from Turkey participates in the research where scientists from different fields such as computer sciences, geography, and mapping take place. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Akcan, Lecturer at IUE Department of Software Engineering, participates in the project which aims to identify the location of the victims and communicate the map information to the search and rescue teams in the event of disasters.
IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS IN THE FIRST 50, AGAIN
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) moved from 35th place to 28th in the “Interuniversity Entrepreneurship and Innovation Index” listed by TUBITAK based on the entrepreneurship and innovation performances of the universities. In this way, Izmir University of Economics resumed its status of being the only foundation university from Aegean Region with 38.95 points in the index announced by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.
THE ONE AND ONLY TURKISH WOMAN SCIENTIST AT THE AFRICAN DESERT FROM IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Meerkats, the adorable residents of the Kalahari Desert, miles away from Izmir, are the subject of a study conducted by Selin Ersoy, Graduate of IUE Department of Psychology. Ersoy, the one and only Turkish female scientist working at the research station located at the riverbed of Kuruman River, Kalahari Desert in South Africa, starts the day at 5.30 a.m. every day to search for the meerkats she studies. Ersoy stated that she dreamed about studying the animal behaviours throughout her studies at IUE Department of Psychology, and she conducted biological and behavioural measurement of the meerkats in a 20 km research area at the Kalahari Desert.
GRADUATION JUBILATION AT IUE
IUE Graduates of Faculties of Engineering and Computer Sciences, Fine Arts and Design, Arts and Science, and School of Applied Management Sciences, who successfully completed their studies in 2013 – 2014 Academic Year, were granted their diplomas. The students threw their caps into the air as they sang the 10th Year Anthem at the second of the graduation ceremonies that took place at IUE Amphitheatre.
NEW GRADUATES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY!
2014 graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) started their journey as the new soldiers of business life. One thousand 52 young individuals who completed their successfully in 2013 – 2014 Academic Year, received their diplomas at the ceremony that took place at IUE Amphitheatre. At the end of the ceremony, the graduates proudly threw their caps into the air as they sang the 10th Year Anthem. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, stated that they graduated one thousand 52 Soldiers of Mustafa Kemal, and sent them off to battle of life for the development of the country.

Ekrem Demirtaş, President of the Board of Trustees of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), stated that they were expecting youth with dreams and they worked to make their goals and dreams come true. President Demirtaş said, “We are offering more than a university to those who want to excel, those with dreams”.
IUE’S MARATHON FOR EXCELLENCE
Izmir University of Economics questioned the place of technological developments in higher education at the "Technology Enhanced Teaching in Higher Education Conference" and "2nd International Consultancy Council Meeting". Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector, Seeram Ramakrishna, IUE Consultant and Lecturer at University of Singapore, Prof. Dr. Philip Kitchen, IUE Visiting Lecturer, Adrian Kirkwood from Open University, England, and scientists from various universities across Turkey participated at the meetings where the need for innovation and technological developments to be reflected to course systems discussed thoroughly. Prof. Dr. Neil Gordon from University of Hull, England also participated via web camera.
