IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS GOT ALL FESTIVE
Izmir University of Economics celebrated the arrival of spring with Zeynep Dizdar concert. IUE’s "13th Spring Festival", sponsored by Izmir Chamber of Commerce, started off with chats, concerts, sports activities, and performances of student clubs. Students enjoyed seeing their favourite authors and artists, and got carried away with unforgettable songs of Zeynep Dizdar.
ARE WOMEN BEING WIPED OUT FROM BUSINESS WORLD?
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) brought the issues regarding the women’s employment to the table. The academicians who discussed the women issues at different universities in Turkey at the “Kadın İstihdamında Yapısal Sorunlar (Structural Issues in Women Employment)” titled workshop delivered by IUE lecturers of Department of Economics Asst. Prof. Dr. Değer Eryar and Asst. Prof. Dr. İdil Göksel, pictured the working conditions of women employees. It was reported that women worked for less wages compared to men within the economic development.
LETTERS OF APPRECIATION BY YOUNG STUDENTS
Young students studying at village schools all across Anatolia reached to their big brothers and sisters at Izmir University of Economics via letters. Students, who had their library as part of 'Yürüyen Kitaplar' project of İlgi'siz Student Club of IUE, expressed their gratitude for books, and stressed out that they would be working with enthusiasm to become university students.
HIS DESIGN BECAME A REMEDY FOR FRACTURES
Deniz Karaşahin, Graduate and Lecturer of IUE Department of Industrial Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, is making a breakthrough in fracture treatment with the arm cast model he designed. As Karaşahin was awarded 2014 Golden A'Desing Award, an international contest held in Italy, his custom design arm cast designed thru 3D printer technology will contribute to medical world greatly. His "Osteoid Medical Cast", which received an award in the category of 3 dimensional print forms and product designs, aims to shorten the treatment process of fractures 40%.
SOCIAL MEDIA WILL DISCUSS CREATIVITY
It has been reported that 1.8 billion people worldwide were actively using social media, and only last year 135 million people opened accounts in this regard. The Şapka Takımı, group of IUE Faculty of Communication students, is bringing the creators of social media together at an event called “Creativity in the Civilization of Social Media” in Izmir.
TURKEY FACES RISKS!
The exports state that the signs, showing that the US economy came out of the crisis, increased, and point out that the abundance of liquidity came to an end. They say that due to the expansionary monetary policy implemented by the United States since 2008, the world economy experienced an abundance of liquidity, and now with the policy being abandoned, Turkish economy faces all kinds of risks including coming to “abrupt halt”.
A VISIT FROM IZMIR UNIVERSITIES PLATFORM
Izmir Universities Platform paid a visit to Izmir University of Economics Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen at his Office. The visiting team of Prof. Dr. Candeğer Yılmaz, Rector of Ege University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Füzün, Rector of Dokuz Eylül University, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Güden, Rector of Izmir Institute of Technology, Prof. Dr. Murat Barkan, Rector of Yaşar University, Prof. Dr. Selma Çetiner Şekerci, Vice Rector of Izmir University, Prof. Dr. Seyfullah Çevik, Rector of University, and Prof. Dr. Yusuf Erdoğan, Rector of Şifa University, wished good luck to Rector Prof. Dr. Esen on his new assignment, and renewed their decision to work in cooperation.

Izmir Economics designers unite academic knowledge and real life. Theoretical knowledge, the students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design receive, turn into practice with the studies they conduct within IUE Design Research and Application Centre (EKOTAM), and become beneficial to entrepreneurs and the city.
MEDIA’S BEST PICTURES OF THE YEAR AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS!
Turkish Photo Journalists Association’s best pictures of the year (2014) are being exhibited for the first time at Izmir Economics. The exhibition will stay open at IUE Foyer through April 15 – 20. The exhibition of 70 pictures (22 pictures and 4 series) of last year’s events that left a mark in our lives including Osman Örsal’s, Reuter’s photo journalist who was awarded the Best Media Picture of the Year, “Kırmızılı Kadın (Lady in Red)” frame, was presented to the audience.
THE YOUTH WANTS TO LEARN FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN A FUN WAY!
It has been reported that young people learned a foreign language much better through cultural activities. The “Young Europeans Love Languages – YELL 2” Project by European Union Lifelong Learning Programme coordinated by Germany, and England and Izmir University of Economics (IUE) from Turkey as project partners, assessed the best methods for learning a foreign language for the youth. It has been suggested that contests, music, drama, and many other intercultural activities played significant role in learning a foreign language.
