CREATE A DIFFERENCE WITH IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS GRADUATE PROGRAMS
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is making it easy for those who want to make a difference in their careers by having a graduate degree, with “distance education model”. IUE allows students to benefit from technological facilities and improve themselves by offering distance education in addition to graduate programs with or without thesis. All of the courses in IUE e-MBA programs are taught live on the internet environment.
SOMA DESIGN BY IUE STUDENTS
After the Soma Disaster, where 301 miners have lost their lives and deeply saddened Turkey, Merve Çelebi and Seba Acar, graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, used coals in their design in memory of the miners. Çelebi and Acar, in a study they started as graduation project, used 301 pieces of coal in the glasses in their design to commemorate the miners who have lost their lives in the Soma Disaster.
TURKISH TEXTILE WILL BE PROMOTED IN ENGLAND
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design will promote the production processes of Turkish textile in England. Lecturers and students of De Monfort University (England) Department of Fashion and Textile Design and IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design created a joint project for “FEED – IN Educational Collaborations Competition” organized by British Council. As a result, the project was chosen. Students of Izmir Economics will share samples of Turkish textile from design to production in England. As part of the project, lecturers and students of De Monfort University (England) Department of Fashion and Textile Design will also come and visit textile companies operating in Izmir.
CONSTRUCTION OF İZMİR BİLİMPARK HAS STARTED
Construction of Izmir Science and Technology Park Technology Development Region (İzmir Bilimpark), which is co-established by Izmir University of Economics and Izmir Chamber of Commerce, has started in ITOB Organized Industry Region. Ekrem Demirtaş, Presdient of IUE Board of Trustees, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, and faculty members threw the first shovel of cement mortar for İzmir Bilimpark which will be completed at the end of the year and ready to serve in 2015. Start of the construction initiated the applications of the entrepreneurs and the evaluation process for the projects.

TURKISH ECONOMY ON A KNIFE EDGE
It has been stated that Turkish economy was going through an endurance test, and general elections in 2015, following the Presidential elections that will be held next week, will be subject to two major uncertainties. The experts stated that the answer to the question whether the economy management would be reshaped or not was looked for especially, and they indicated that Turkish economy would be always on a knife edge due to political and external developments between the two elections.
TURKISH SILK ON ITS WAY TO INDIA
Lecturers of Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design will tell the story of Turkish silk that had to compete against Chinese silk for many years, in India. Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Lecturers Seda Kuleli and Özge Dikkaya Göknur, will be talking about silkworm breeding and silk weaving in Turkey after the presentations they conducted in Thailand, Italy, and Alanya.
THE CELEBRITIES’ FASHION DESIGNER IS AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Paul Scherer, fashion designer of Desperate Housewives’ beautiful actress Eva Longoria, will share his expertise with the future fashion designers of Izmir University Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design. In addition to Longoria, Paul Scherer also custom designs for American Singer Jennifer Rush, German Actresses Mirja du Mont and Sophie von Kessel, top model Heidi Klum, and German Singer Sarah Connor. Scherer will be teaching creative fashion to IUE students for a whole semester in 2014 – 2015 Academic Year.
MODERN GAZEBOS FROM IUE ARCHITECTS
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Architecture built modern gazebos. At the “Digital Fabrication” titled workshop where American Architects Raffi Tomassian and Nicholas Germann from Miami University attended, the lecturers and students of (IUE) Department of Architecture designed gazebos accommodating at least two people. A modern design approach was used in the project where IUE Lecturers Michael Young, Özlem Akın, Füsun Babaoğlu, Dr. Altuğ Kasalı, and research assistants Ece Küreli and Ece Uyar Aktaş participated.
SUCCESS REQUIRES SELF-KNOWLEDGE
The experts, who stated that the students took their first steps to adulthood with the announcement of university placement results, pointed out that those who were not placed in the programs they desired should not give up on their dreams. Clinical Psychologist Nilgün Köstem, Coordinator of IUE Psychological Development and Counselling Centre, stated that students who were not able to get placed in the university or program they wanted should not feel disappointed and she said, “If success doesn’t come the way we planned, it doesn’t mean a total failure. We need to try couple of more times to reach our goals. Sometimes, ‘failure’ or ‘mistake’ may be more educational and valuable for us.”
