IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS WILL HELP SHAPE THEIR FUTURE
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is helping the students make realistic and conscious university choices with experienced experts after a difficult exam period. The experts, in addition to 45 students and all academic units, will be guiding the prospective university students at IUE Conference Hall where 15 guidance and information tables set up. As the results have been announced, Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, met the very first prospective student himself and told them to go after their dreams.
SOMEONE’S TRASH IS SOMEBODY ELSE’S TREASURE
Those stuff that we do not use at our homes will be used by someone else. Senior students of IUE Department of Software Engineering will allow free sharing of goods between the people in need with the project they developed. Students Yücel Karaman, Cenk Ünlü, Güven Şeker, Doğan Deniz Lafcıoğlu, and Onur Babalıklı, who created www.bedavalazim.com internet project, aim to prevent unused stuff to go to garbage.

As the weather got warmer, water accidents reached dramatic dimensions. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) data, water accidents rank in third place among the unintentional causes of death worldwide, and some 500 thousand people died each year because of this reason. It has been reported that an average of 654 people died due to drowning in Turkey.
SUICIDE RATES INCREASE
The experts state that suicides and suicide attempts will become a major problem in Turkish society in the near future. Based on the 2013 data by Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), number of suicide attempts resulted in death was 3 thousand 189. Prof. Dr. Erol Kahveci, Head of IUE Department of Sociology, who evaluated TUIK data said that at least 4 out of one hundred thousand people in Turkey committed suicide.
CAPTURED HEARTS WITH THEIR DANCES
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Folk Dances Club shared the same stage with members of the National Down Syndrome Association. National Down Syndrome Association Folklore Up Group performed ‘çayda çıra’ dance. The Rhythm Up Group of the Association mesmerized the audience with their rhythm performance. Audience of more than a thousand strongly applauded the children.
UNITED NATIONS HELD UP IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS AS AN EXAMPLE
Turkey Launch Event-Sustainable Energy for All, which was held by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Sustainable Energy, was chosen as an example by New York Headquarters of United Nations. The Launch was mentioned in the "United Nations Global Compact Local Network Report 2013”, and the report made recommendations to the government policies on "Turkish Local Network and Izmir University of Economics on ‘Sustainable Energy’ and ‘Environmental Management’. The report was shared directly with more than 12 thousand member organizations and institutions worldwide.
SHOPKEEPERS’ BATTLE AGAINST SHOPPING MALLS!
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) put Balçova shopkeepers under the microscope, who explain their situation clearly by saying, “How can I compete against a supermarket who sells even a loaf of bread with a credit card?” Prof. Dr. Erol Kahveci, Head of IUE Department of Sociology, and his students conducted one on one interviews with 700 shopkeepers in Balçova. 76% of them stated that the shopping malls negatively affected their businesses.
GETTING COOL WILL BE LESS COSTLY!
Trying to cool spaces such as homes, offices, shopping centres and metro during the hot days of summer will be more economical. With TUBITAK smart cooling system development project, coordinated by Izmir University of Economics (IUE), 10% of energy efficiency will be provided for the first time. Turkish economy will save more than 2 billion TL with an efficiency adjustment to heating-cooling system it spends 24 billion TL on thanks to an electronic card formed by applying control algorithms.
CLEAN WATER FOR STRAY ANIMALS WITH “LOTUS”
The stray animals will have clean water during the hottest days of summer with “Lotus”. İrem Kaval, Senior at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design, pays back both to the nature and animals with a clay water bowl that sge got inspired by lotus flower.
