The research project of Prof. Neslihan Kansu Yetkiner, Head of Department of English Translation and Interpretation, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), and Asst. Prof. Ilgın Aktener on how 13 world-famous modernist novels are presented to Turkish society, was accepted by TUBITAK. 

The "Smart Garden" project, carried out by Prof. Murat Aşkar, the Rector of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), and  Graduate Student Mert Kalaycı in order to develop soilless agriculture, ranked second among 400 projects at the Entrepreneurship in Agriculture Contest organized by Türkiye İş Bankası. 

Assoc. Prof. Gülin Vardar and Assoc. Prof. Berna Aydoğan, lecturers from Faculty of Business, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), received international award for their  article where they researched the differences in returns between the stocks, bonds, dollar and euro with 'Bitcoin' in Turkey. The "Emerald Publishing", which has been the scientific publisher of academic journals and books in England since 1967, deemed the work of IUE academics the "Most Outstanding Article" award of 2019 in the evaluation they made among thousands of articles around the world.

Şeref Alpago, lecturer at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and a 30-year civil engineer, listed the steps to be  taken against earthquake risk, which threaten not only Izmir but several points of Turkey and made groundbreaking recommendations. Stating that a 5-year ban on sales may be imposed on residences built with a temporary contracting certificate, and the implementation of not allowing building permits without "construction insurance" and a residence report for new buildings, Alpago also warned potential home buyers to pay attention to the "basement". Alpago said, “Ask if there a basement in the building where you plan to buy. The further you go towards solid ground in the building, the better. The basement is always an advantage for the building, it is a steel vest. For buildings to be built between 2-6 floors, the basement floor condition should be applied, and it should not be included in the floor area ratio.”

The borders that are lifted by student exchanges in higher education cause students to have difficulties in different areas such as gender, race and cultural difference in the countries they go to. Academics from Izmir University of Economics seek answers to the difficulties experienced by students with an international project, including faculty members from Belgium, Greece, England, Poland and Germany.

Tuna Dabak, graduate of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), combined his academic success with his talent in foreign languages and he succeeded in having two professions at the age of 27 as an engineer and a translator. Working in the software and product development department of a company in Istanbul, Dabak has provided translation support for the European matches of Beşiktaş and Başakşehir sports clubs with the Portuguese teams thanks to his good command of Spanish and Portuguese languages. Dabak, who also participated as a translator in the Survivor team, which was shot in Dominican Island, proved himself in both areas and quickly climbed the career ladder and wrote an exemplary success story.

The coronavirus, which negatively affected life in many issues from daily life to work and social interaction, also changed the eating habits and the number of meals. Asst. Prof. Betül Öztürk, Director of School of Applied Management Sciences, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), stated that with the transition to working from home during the pandemic period, many people gave up breakfast or started to have breakfast at noon, by decreasing number of meals to two, which is not the healthy thing to do. Drawing attention to the importance of nutrition at the point of virus protection and the fact that the body should not be weak, Prof. Nazan Turhan, Head of IUE Department of Food Engineering, made recommendations to help protect from the disease.    

Finger puppets to be used in the psychological therapy of children affected by the 6.6 magnitude earthquake that took place in Izmir were prepared at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). 300 puppets produced by IUE Department of Textile and Fashion Design, who took action to support children who have lost their homes after the earthquake and have not been able to get over fear for a long time, will be delivered to expert psychologists within the scope of cooperation with the Turkish Psychological Association.

In the video footage that emerged after the 6.6-magnitude earthquake in Izmir, it was seen that most citizens did not know what to do during the earthquake, they tried to hold things instead of creating a triangle of life in a safe area, or remained unable to move. Melahat Kızıl, Lecturer at Paramedic Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), gave advice on what to do before and during the earthquake.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, Head of Division of Sustainable Energy, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), was deemed worthy of the TUBITAK 2020 Incentive Award, which is shown as Turkey's most prestigious science award.
