R&D and project era at Izmir University of Economics
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) has raised the bar of success in many areas from R&D activities to the projects developed, according to the "University Monitoring and Assessment General Report 2019" published by the Council of Higher Education. IUE, the most preferred foundation university in the Aegean Region, increased the number of projects jointly carried out with the industry from 13 to 22 compared to the previous year.
English training opportunity for YLSY scholarship holders
Those, who benefit from the YLSY scholarship awarded by the Ministry of National Education to improve the foreign language skills of students who will go abroad for graduate education, are being trained at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). During the 16-week program, students, who take online training courses from the instructors of IUE School of Foreign Languages due to the pandemic, have the opportunity to improve their English skills in a short time. IUE, where many students have been educated so far, draws attention as one of the two universities in Izmir that provides this education.
Founded the brand of healthy fashion
With the pandemic, Dilara Karaca, a fashion designer from Izmir University of Economics, created her own brand by turning the intense demand, for clothing made of natural fabrics, used for multipurpose and bring health rather than aesthetics to the fore, into an opportunity. Karaca, who started the "healthy fashion" era by creating sweat-free, ecological and recyclable designs, put the products of her brand called "in d’tales" for online sale.
IUE gets accredited by the European Commission
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), which hosts many cultures by hosting about 100 students from different countries every year, has been accredited by the European Commission for 7 years. IUE, which fulfilled all the criteria requested by the European Commission in different areas such as digitalization, transparency in practices and internationalization, will be able to accept foreign national students from 175 universities with ERASMUS agreement and send students to these universities. 923 thousand euros (8.3 million lira) grant has been provided so far to 5 projects carried out by IUE in the international arena. Thanks to the accreditation, grants will continue to be given to new projects.
'Rainwater' harvesting as a tool for drought
Water levels at dams fell to critical levels in Turkey who is experiencing one of the driest winters in the last 10 years. While Izmir has its share of drought, despite the rains that have occurred consecutively in the last few days, full supply level in Tahtalı Dam decreased to 39 percent, Alaçatı Kutlu Aktaş Dam to 41 percent, Güzelhisar Dam to 47 percent and Gördes Dam to 3.50 percent. The average precipitation, which was 47.4 mm in November 2019, is measured as 8.2 mm in last November in the Aegean Region.
