LIFESTYLE HABITS IMPACT YOUR CANCER RISK
There is a remarkable relationship between lifestyle and cancer. Prof. Dr. Kamer Mutafoğlu, Head of Division of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), pointed that majority of cancer types were preventable by avoiding risk factors and opting for healthy life choices. “Nearly one-third of deaths caused by cancer are associated with five main lifestyle factors such as tobacco products, alcohol consumption, malnutrition, obesity, and lack of physical activity. Use of tobacco and tobacco products alone is the most significant cancer risk factor. It is accounted for 22% of leading cause of death globally. Using tobacco products is associated with development of lung, throat, mouth, esophagus, kidney, urinary track, pancreas, stomach, and cervical cancers”.
SPECIALIZING IN HAND AND UPPER EXTREMITY
The “Practical Solutions on Hand and Upper Extremity Soft Tissue Defects Flap Training Course on Cadaver” was organized for the first time in Turkey for surgical assistants of Orthopedics and Traumatology, and Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetics Surgeries.
MULTI-PURPOSE FURNITURE BY IUE STUDENTS
Juniors of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, and Department of Industrial Design of Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), exhibited their learn-read-play themed furniture collection at the exhibition hall of Izmir Chamber of Commerce. Approximately 70 students designed benches, bookcases, and swings that motivate children to learn and play.
TURKISH DESIGNS IN UKRAINE
Faculty members of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will conquer Ukraine with their designs. Prof. Dr. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Lecturers Asst. Prof. Dr. Dilek Himam Er, Dr. Jovita Sakalauskaite, Jörn Fröhlich, and student Mert Serbest, along with Duygu Kocabaş Atılgan, Lecturer, IUE Vocational School, will attend the International Biennial Symposium and Exhibition on Textile Art in Ukraine with their artwork.
‘TRANSLATION’ SUCCESS OF IUE STUDENT
Entrepreneurial students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), where the medium of instruction is English, proved their success in translation and interpretation area. Ezgi Yağmur Kırlangıç, senior from IUE Department of Translation and Interpretation, came in second place at the Young Translators Competition held by the Ministry of EU Affairs. Kırlangıç qualified to visit the EU institutions located in Brussels.
FUTURE IN THE HANDS OF YOUNG SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS
Izmir Economics engineers will write the future. The “Car4Future” titled project of Oğuzhan Sarıtaş and Doğucan Seyidoğlu, students from Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), was selected among 120 projects nationwide, and the students qualified to attend entrepreneurship ecosystem trip in San Francisco, and receive continuous mentoring.
IUE SPRING 2018 COLLECTION RUNWAY SHOW
Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) displayed their collections with famous top models Özge Ulusoy and Irmak Atuk. 70 unique designs by 21 students were presented to the audience at "Spring Fashion Show 2018" at Park Myvia 414 Shopping Center.
HEALING HERBS FROM THE GARDEN TO THE TABLE
Aegean herbs such as blessed thistle, baby's tears, cibez (type of a cruciferous vegetable), stinging nettle, lamb's-ear, etc. are essential part of cuisines and spring diets. TURNING OLD GOODS BACK INTO NEW CLOTHING
Art has the perfect solution to the problem of ‘what would happen’ to the old towels, bedding items, curtains that are no longer being used. Jörn Fröchlich, Lecturer, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), created new costumes from old materials such as curtains, towels, table clothes, etc.
