İlayda Karakuş, Senior at Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is both ice skating and designing costumes for her team at the same time. Karakuş, who is an ice skater at Synchronized Ice Skating Team of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, designs costumes for her team.   

Duygu Deniz Turhanlar, student at Department of Mathematics, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), took on caring responsibilities for youth with Down syndrome at ‘İyilik Atölyesi’ (Down Cafe). Turhanlar shares the journey of youth with Down syndrome at Down Cafe, which is supported by a private company and run by Izmir Down Syndrome Association member parents and children. Turhanlar reported that she visited the Down Cafe, which was opened last July, with her family by chance. “We decided to go in there when we were passing by. When I ordered, I felt the need to be with them, accompany them along their journey, and get involved in a social project,” said Turhanlar.

Ege Deliguru and Onat Çipli, both juniors from Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), developed a software program which generates alternatives for weekly course schedules in course selection process. Students will be able to see the best weekly course schedule combinations by entering the course codes in www.whichisgreat.com titled website.  

Yeliz Cengiz, Graduate of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), presented her “Saza” titled collection to an appreciative audience at the new building of Izmir Chamber of Commerce. Fashion Designer Cengiz displayed 25 wedding gowns she prepared in 6 months by using macramé, a form of textile produced using knotting techniques. 

IZMIR ECONOMICS HAS BEEN AWARDED THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP FLAG FOR THE 4^th TIME CONSECUTIVELY

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) continues to prove its leadership in education with its entrepreneurial students. The University, which offers international standard education to its more than 10 thousand students, has qualified to have the “Entrepreneurship Flag” for the most number of enterprising projects for the fourth time consecutively in the “Bu Gençlikte İŞ Var” titled competition organized by Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD).  

As the second semester for almost 18 million students begins on Monday, February 5, the experts strongly warn parents about being over-involved in many areas of their children’s lives, and putting themselves in the center of their children’s education. Ezgi Oral, Lecturer at Child Development Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), stated that parents are too involved with everything about their children: their homework, exams, courses, even their social lives. Oral said, “Recent studies reveal that parental involvement in school has little effect on child’s success. Giving a child a chance to take his/her own responsibility, contributes greatly to both academic and social success of the child”.

İnan Evin, a junior at Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), ranked among the top 50 students worldwide at the competition held by UNITY, world-renowned software company and a cross-platform game engine. Evin, thanks to his portfolio and motivation letter, qualified to attend the Game Developers Conference (GDC), world's largest professional game industry event, to be held in San Francisco.  

The virtual world gained 30 new games under the theme of ‘Transmission’ at digital game sector’s most important game development organization Global Game Jam’s (GGJ) Izmir leg. Two hundred participants spent 48 hours with little or no sleep at the event organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE) where software developers, designers, and members of computer world came together.

Prospective university students got rid of their exam anxiety at Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Youth, who came together at IUE Multi-Purpose Hall at “Design for Future with Youth Workshop”, expressed their dreams, visions in the fields of architecture, interior architecture and environmental design, industrial design, visual communication design, and fashion and textile design by using waste paper, fabrics, boxes, etc. Students, who reported that they had difficulty coping with anxiety and stress during the preparation process for university entrance exams, projected their hopes through design at the workshop. 

High schoolers made a documentary of the experiences of their peers on social media, peer victimization, correct use of Turkish, racism, discrimination, and gender. More than 60 high school students, who attended the 7^th Communication Workshop organized by Faculty of Communication, Izmir University of Economics, projected the daily life problems they face personally in the creative documentary, media, and play workshops.
