SUMERBANK PATTERNS TOURING AROUND TURKEY
Sümerbank fabrics, garments, home textile products, which make up the legacy of industrialization revolution in Turkey, are being exhibited in Ankara. The exhibition on Sümerbank fabrics, which were re-manufactured by Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), will start on January 12 at Contemporary Arts Center with cooperation of Çankaya Municipality, Ankara.
‘FAIRY-TALE HEROINES’ EXHIBITION
Fairytale heroines come to life in the amazing illustrations created by Dr. Duygu Kocabaş Atılgan, Lecturer at Graphics Design Program, Vocational School, Izmir University of Economics (IUE). The stories, which features beauty, courage, independence, and intelligence of women, will be on display at Buca Cultural Center until January 11.
BOOKS; MAGICAL DOORWAYS TO OTHER WORLDS
Books opened the doors to new worlds for preschool students. Students of Child Development Program of Vocational School of Health Sciences, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) have donated books to the students of Kemalpaşa 75. Yıl Pre School as part of their “Children’s Literature and Media” course. IUE students attended classes with preschoolers, read books to them, and acted out the stories in the books.
DOĞAN TURHAN SCHOLARSHIP IN WORLD OF LOGISTICS
Successful students at Department of Logistics Management, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) receive education via Doğan Turhan Scholarship. The protocol was signed back in 2014 between Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Engin Turhan, son of the late Doğan Turhan, in order to grant a merit scholarship for students and research support for academicians. Forty-four students qualified to receive scholarship so far. Students of Department of Logistics Management can benefit from the scholarship that is a first for Aegean Region and Izmir University of Economics.
PARAMEDICS OF IUE SAVE LIVES!
Students of Paramedic Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), created emergency scenarios and participated in a training drill on campus. The lifelike applications were appreciated by the audience. Paramedics, who play a significant role in emergencies before hospitalization, are getting ready to take part in emergency health services.
MEMBERS OF ITO EDUCATION AND HEALTH FOUNDATION WELCOMED 2018
Izmir Chamber of Commerce Health and Education Foundation, the founding organization of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) with a past of 29 years, welcomed 2018 with its members at a New Year’s party. The members enjoyed a night of dances and songs, and wished each other a happy new year at the party hosted by Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of the Executive Board of ITO Health and Education Foundation, which was held at the new service building of Izmir Chamber of Commerce. Chairman Demirtaş and the members of the Executive Board cut the New Year’s cake together. Rebii Akdurak, Chairman of ITO Council, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Şımga Muğan, Hasan Denizkurdu, Former Minister of Justice, members and spouses ITO Health and Education Foundation, and guests attended the party.
WIND OF ‘NEW ROMANTICISM’ ON THE RUNWAY
Students of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) presented their designs of 2018 at Agora Shopping Mall. 70 unique designs of 21 students were showcased on the runway under the title of New Romanticism by IUE models.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN LANGUAGE EDUCATION
English language instructors and teacher trainers working at schools of foreign languages in Turkey came together and established “English Language Teaching and Professional Development Association (TESOL)”. Fifty representatives from 20 institutions attended the first meeting of the association hosted by Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Participants selected Asst. Prof. Dr. Bahar Gün, Instructor at IUE School of Foreign Languages, as the President of the Association. TESOL, a second association founded by English language instructors, will work on improving the quality of English Language education in Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
EDUCATIONAL COLLABORATION BETWEEN ESBAŞ and IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
A collaboration protocol on graduate education has been signed between Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Aegean Free Zone Development & Operating Co. (ESBAŞ). The protocol, signed by IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Şımga Muğan, and Dr. Faruk Güler, Chairman of Executive Board of ESBAŞ, will allow employees of companies located within Aegean Free Zone to attend graduate programs carried out by IUE Graduate Schools at ESBAŞ Technology Center Training Hall.
TRANSFORMATION OF PAPER INTO ART
Creative paper artwork is being displayed at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). The exhibition, prepared by the members of Traditional Arts Association, has been opened at IUE Multi-Purpose Hall with the attendance of Audrius Brüzga, Ambassador of Lithuania in Ankara. Ambassador Brüzga, who also met with IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Can Muğan, stated that they would like to improve educational collaboration between the two countries.
