AWARD WINNING SOLUTIONS BY IUE STUDENTS
Buse Bircan, Berk Arık, and Beril Bayer, Students from Department of Industrial Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), came in first place at the Product Supply Challenge case analysis competition held by Procter & Gamble (P&G). Students, who competed as Busy B’s titled team, outcompeted third and fourth year undergraduate students, and graduate students nationwide, and achieved a phenomenal success.
NEW COMMUNICATION NETWORK FOR STUDENTS
University students find solutions to their problems such as finding a rental, roommate, making friends, accessing course grades, etc. with a social networking site named, “geyiklife”, founded by entrepreneurial students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Aydan Gül, student at IUE Department of Psychology, and Burcu Durmaz, student at IUE Department of Public Relations and Advertising, the masterminds behind the project, which allows students to be interact efficiently with each other, not only make friends at IUE, they can also make friends at other universities.
NEW GAMES WILL BE DEVELOPED IN 48 SLEEPLESS HOURS
Digital game sector’s most important game development organization Global Game Jam’s (GGJ) Izmir leg, GGJ Aegean, brings software developers, designers, and members of computer world together at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Two hundred participants will develop games within 48 hours at this year’s event, which had been hosted by IUE since 2012. Expert software developers will also provide support.
TRAVELERS CAN NOW PAY WITH “BITCOIN”
Travelling is getting cheaper, and with bitcoin payment option. Entrepreneurial graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are paving the way for travelers to use worldwide popular crypto currencies in order to ease their lives. Hakan Eren, Graduate of IUE International Trade and Finance, founded the enterprise, “Hesaplitur.com”, for cheaper and better quality travelling.
ROBOTS HELPING TO SOLVE PROBLEMS
Freshmen of Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), displayed the robots they developed within the scope of “MCE102 Introduction to Mechatronics Engineering” course to 150 high school students. The event, which took place at IUE Conference Hall, showcased robots that were designed by 1st year students to bring solution proposals to various daily problems, including putting out fires to writing dates, time on the board, etc.
DESIGNS BEYOND BORDERS
IUE fashion designers are going global with the. As the graduates of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), are displaying their designs at the fair, they are also engaging in collaboration agreements with participants coming from different parts of the world. By signing agreements with countries such as France, Germany, England, Russia, Dubai, and Iran, the young fashion designers are going global with their collections.
PHYSICAL THERAPY WILL GET EASIER WITH SMART BALANCE BOARD
Treating balance disorders is just going to get easier with the “smart balance board” developed by IUE entrepreneurs. İrem Gürsoy, Junior at Department of Psychology, Izmir University of Economics, developed a mobile device, under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Burak Erdeniz, Lecturer at Department of Psychology, which will be used in diagnosis of balance disorders, and in physical therapy and rehabilitation department to treat these disorders.
CANCER AWARENESS THROUGH FASHION DESIGN
Jörn Fröhlich, Lecturer at Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), expressed his battle with cancer in his designs. Fröhlich, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer recently, created a collection titled “PSA”. For his collection created of waste fabrics, Fröhlich said, “I used kind of visible stitches on each piece of fabric, mimicking the texture of a wound in healing process”.
NEW ERA OF SOILLESS AGRICULTURE BEGINS
IUE entrepreneurs add a new dimension to farming by combining soilless agriculture with plant lighting and software. The “Smart Garden” titled project of Mert Kalaycı, student at M.Sc. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Program of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), under the guidance of IUE Vice Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, focuses on growing variety of vegetables, fruits, and industry plants including tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, saffron, etc.
