Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) held an “Egg Drop Contest” for high school students to reinforce their interaction with science. Competitors created a device that would keep raw eggs intact when dropped from a specific height.

Youth with Down syndrome displayed their fine motor skills and created theater masks. Under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Duygu Ebru Öngen Corsini, Faculty Member of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), the youth used waste and recycled paper and made masks that are used in performance arts.  

Students of Faculty of Engineering, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) will be involved in inventions. The new laboratory facility including 13 different units such as Industry 4.0, Aerospace, Electrical and Electronics, Biomedical, Drawing and Design, Computer Games Design, Molecular Research, Cell and Tissue Culture, Biotechnology, Robotics and Mechanics, Cloud and Advanced Simulation, Computer Laboratory, and Clean Room opened for research and innovation at Izmir University of Economics.

Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Folk Dance Club shared their stage with the members of Gaziemir Municipality’s Ata Evi Center for Healthy Aging. Members of the Center danced ‘Harmandalı’ and ‘Damat Halayı’ with young students. Ata Evi Team mesmerized the audience. Dancers, between the ages of 18 – 85, performed Zeybek on the stage.

Students of Civil Aviation Cabin Services Program, Vocational School, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), completed their mock-up training at Turkish Airlines (THY) Flight Training Center. Second year students, who completed 2017-2018 academic year education at THY’s cutting-edge training center, experienced emergency situations such as in-flight fires, aircraft decompression, emergency landing, landing gear failure, etc. with realistic flight simulators.

Refugee kids tried to minimize the scars of war with outdoor games as part of the project titled, “See like a Kid”, developed by the students of Faculty of Communication, Izmir University of Economics (IUE). IUE communicators, who want to say, “Stop” to negative discourse about Syrian children, who have been forced to flee their homes, brought almost 40 Syrian children together at the outdoor games festival held on campus. IUE students played “catch the ball”, “hopscotch”, “dodgeball”, “tag”, “angry birds”, etc. with the kids. The happiness on children’s faces was worth seeing.

22 children, who participated in the Leader Children Agriculture Camp, a project by Izmir Provincial Directorate of Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock to raise awareness about nature and agriculture among children, became chefs for a day at Izmir University of Economics (IUE); cooked dishes with Aegean herbs.   

Prof. Dr. Hürol Fışıloğlu, Founder of İlişki Pusulası Institute for Family Studies, and Retired Faculty, METU Department of Psychology, who indicated that arguing couples were shown as an example in most watched  TV shows, series, said, “If a relationship is over, you need to avoid everything about that person. The most risky category is the friend category. ‘It is over, but can we stay as friends?’ Where does this need come from? It is done, it is over! Your ex does not have to be your fiend”.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Business awarded students with high grade point averages. 29 successful students from 2017-2018 fall semester were awarded their certificates of achievement at the “Dean’s List” event, which is being held by Faculty of Business since 2014 – 2015 Academic Year Spring Semester.
