TRAINING; CONFIDENT STEPS TOWARDS FUTURE
Thanks to the protocol between Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Vocational School of Health Services, Child Development Program and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, IZELMAN A.Ş. Preschools, the children are going to grow up healthier. 40 trainers working at IZELMAN Preschools has received in service training at IUE. The training included seminar subjects such as different approaches to child development, education, effective communication with parents, sexual education of preschool children, and classroom management in preschool.
THE PAST COMES TO THE FORE IN DESIGN
Design spirit items come to light in the hands of Zafer Tuna Poyraz, a Ph.D. student in Design Studies Program at Izmir University of Economics. Poyraz’s store in Alaçatı includes many items dating back to 1950’s such as long plays, phones, toy cars, luggage, etc. which left their mark in history.
ECO-FRIENDLY WEDDING DRESSES
Wedding gowns are also becoming eco-friendly. Yeliz Cengiz, gradute of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, stated that the brides-to-be opted for natural look, and natural fabrics such as linen, cotton would be used in 2017 wedding gown designs.
OTTOMAN WOMEN REFLECTED IN FELT AND SILK
The fragile, soft, and frail nature of Ottoman women was reflected in silk and felt. Duygu Kocabaş, Research Assistant at Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics, transformed the phenomenon of woman in Ottoman Empire into artwork.
IUE’S INVASION OF IZMIR INTERNATIONAL FAIR
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is taking part in the 85th International Izmir Fair with its innovation team. The University is making innovative presentations to the guests with 7 different projects which bring Izmir Science Park, Embryonix Technology Transfer Office, university, industry, and Research & Development together.
FEMALE CHEFS OF ALAÇATI
Cretan cuisine and exchange cuisine (Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations) are being blended with world flavors in the hands of Izmir Economics chefs in Alaçatı. Female chefs Merve Öztürk and Fulya Sivritaş, both graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Culinary Arts and Management, aim to make Alaçatı the capital of gourmet tourism. Chefs Öztürk and Sivritaş add international flavors to exchange cuisine, which is an important part of Aegean Cuisine, and serve it to their guests in line with the education they received at the University.
EXERCISING IN SPACE
Izmir University of Economics (IUE), who is getting ready to train the future Aerospace Engineers, developed exercise harness for astronauts. Mehmet Ergül, Student at IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design, designed an exercise harness called, “Orpheus”, as a result of consultations with NASA Johnson Space Center and the guidance of astronaut coaches.
PEDALING WILL GET FASTER!
Izmir will get electric bikes. Samed Tümer, student at Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Industrial Design, designed electric bikes for rent. Tümer, who visited the production plants of bicycle companies, developed an electric bicycle called, “Bisim Hybrid”, which will allow easy biking to uphill parts of the town. Tümer stated that his design was different from electrical motorbikes in terms of pedaling. He said that the engine would not start as long as one didn’t hit the pedals.
11 THOUSAND KILOMETERS FOR PROMOTIONAL VIDEOS
11 thousand kilometers have been traveled; a 10 hour image archive has been set up throughout 6 months for the video, which brought a breath of fresh air to Izmir’s promotion, that has been released on TV channels and social media with a slogan ‘İzmir’e Doyamazsın’ (You can’t get enough of Izmir). The team of 20, consisting of academicians and students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Communication, completed the film editing of the video, based on 8 different themes, in 45 days.
NEW ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN FOR ALAÇATI
IUE interior architectures are bringing a new design to Alaçatı. Belis Foçalı, graduate of Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, is running her own boutique hotel where she took care of all details from a to z during the construction phase thanks to the education she received. Foçalı, who pointed that Izmir University of Economics trained entrepreneurial youth, said that she reaped the fruit of the design education she received.
