TEOS ‘GAME’ IN SESSION
Young people will learn about history by playing a game. The historical structures and artifacts excavated in the ancient city of Teos—located in Seferihisar, the first slow city in Turkey—are being transferred to digital media in 3D format by the members of IUE Department of Architecture. The members of the IUE Department of Computer Engineering will now be able to transport students from today back to ancient era with a computer game they are designing based on the excavations. This way, gamers will be able to learn about both the ancient city of Teos and the history of the Aegean Region. The game will bring adventure, archeology and digital technology together.
SUMMER SCHOOL’ FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS AT IUE
High school students will get to enjoy being university students at the “high schoolers summer school” organized by Izmir University of Economics (IUE). During the summer school, which will take place between August 8-20, such courses as Educational Coaching, Computer Programming, Civil Engineering, Genetic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Space Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Software Algorithm, and 3D Design will be offered. Students can apply for the summer school program at https://lise.ieu.edu.tr until August 3.
TOUCH OF IUE IN ALAÇATI WIND
IUE students from Department of Fashion and Textile Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design presented a fashion feast in Alaçatı MillFest – Fashion and Art Festival. With their collections, the students – Dilara Karaca, Ece Metiner, Gökçe Üstgül, Zeynep Karaoğlu, and Özge Yetik – captured the Alaçatı winds on their clothes. Held in cooperation of Aegean Clothing Manufacturers’ Association with Çeşme Municipality, the festival showcased the style of fashion designers from IUE in Alaçatı.
PRIZES TO YOUNG DESIGNERS FROM KOREA
The young designers of Izmir University of Economics are back from Korea with prizes. Yağmur Merve Arık, Industrial Design Student at Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Fine Arts, has been awarded silver at the 21st International Design Trends for her design enabling people to produce their own fruits and vegetables indoors without soil. Also, Canan Gündoğan, Industrial Design Student at Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Fine Arts, has been awarded the special prize for her design of anti-dust bookshelf. Arık and Gündoğan’s designs will be cataloged in the competition catalogue.
AVATAR TRANSLATORS COMING
New members of the translation world will advance themselves in a three dimensional virtual world in the internet. Students who wish to provide translation services will be in a virtual environment, translating bilateral talks of members of parliament or statements of foreign guests in a court. The TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) project is carried out by IUE Department of English Translation and Interpreting in collaboration with the Department of Computer Engineering. With the project, students will be able to translate in a virtual campus (Second Life) through the scenarios created, and academicians will be able to evaluate the students in this virtual campus.
THE WEALTH OF CULTURES RETURNS WITH FLAVOUR
Recipes which date back thousands of years and which are still in use today are being documented. The dishes of different cultures, such as the emigrants, Cretians, the nomads, Bosnians, Albanians, and the people from Kütahya who once settled down in Urla, a town in Izmir, will not be forgotten. The local flavours of the region are being recorded following talks with people who are 70 years or older in 36 villages and districts which make up the cultural wealth of Urla. Recipes which were used in the past are now reappearing. Following the completion of the research, the recipes and stories of various dishes will be printed in Turkish, Italian, French, and English and a documentary will also be made.
IEU CHEFS BRING A TOUCH OF TURKEY TO FRANCE
Young Turkish future chefs are learning about the French touch in the kitchen on-site. Izmir University of Economics Culinary Arts and Management students are doing their internships in Michelin-starred restaurants in collaboration with the Association of Les Toques Blanches Lyonnaises, established by French chefs. 12 young future chefs from Izmir University of Economics are mastering the particulars of their profession next to award-winning chefs in Michelin-starred restaurants in Lyon, France.
WOMEN WILL SELECT THEIR STYLE ONLINE
Women will love the new system that learns their taste in design and body shape. In the application called “Shopshape” designed by the academicians of Izmir University of Economics, women will find their design suiting their body shapes on the internet. In this way, they will be able to get advice on clothing design according to their body shapes and have a shopping environment peculiar to themselves.
WARNING! A NEW MODEL OF FRAUD!
The new method of frauds has become to use the Word “coup”. Frauds, formerly having used the names of “police” or “MIT” (National Intelligence Agency), have changed their tactics. These people deceive citizens by communicating with them on the phone or social media saying that their names are being pronounced in the coup investigation. By this way, these frauds demand several things and especially money from citizens.

Izmir University of Economics (IUE) is building a success story. IUE was rated the 11th among the universities which were established after 2000 in 2016-2017 METU-URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance) rankings.
