IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS COOPERATING WITH GAZI HOSPITAL IN HEALTH
Students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Health Sciences, and Vocational School of Health Services will get hands-on training at Gazi Hospital. A protocol on educational cooperation between Izmir University of Economics and Izmir Gazi Hospital was signed. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector, Surgeon Salih Mertan, Chairman of Board of Directors of Gazi Hospital, Selim Amato, Vice Chairman of Board of Directors of Gazi Hospital, lecturers, physicians, and students attended the protocol ceremony.
TURKISH-GREEK FRIENDSHIP CELEBRATED
Theodore Tsakaris, Consul General of Greece in Izmir, stated that they’ve reached a $5 billion trading volume between Turkey and Greece, and 1 million 500 thousand tourists were visiting both countries in one year. National Holiday of Greece was celebrated with a reception that took place at Izmir University of Economics Conference Hall. Theodore Tsakaris, Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of the Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce (ITO) and President of IUE Board of Trustees, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, Mustafa Tosun, Dikili Mayor, Gökhan Demirağ, Foça Mayor, Dahi Zeynel Bakıcı, Selçuk Mayor, Mehmet Ali Molay, Honorary Consul of Finland, and Kemal Anadol, former CHP Parliament for Izmir have attended the reception.
YOUTH IS AT THE THEATER FEST
The university youth is getting together at the 1st Rabarba Theater Festival. Theater groups of IUE, Dokuz Eylül University School of Medicine, and Physical Therapy, Ege University School of Medicine, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Yaşar, Izmir, and Kâtip Çelebi Universities came together at the first festival hosted by Izmir University of Economics. Actor and Director Haldun Dormen, the first guest of the festival who shared his experiences with the audience, said, “Work as much as you can like me, then you won’t find time to get old.”
JAPAN FROM HIS WINDOW
His love for anime motivated İlke Karademir, Junior at IUE Department of Visual Communication Design, to learn and take Japanese as a second foreign language, and brought him championship at the Japanese speech contest. Karademir attended the ‘Japan from My Window: Introducing Japan and Japanese Speech Contest’ held by JIKAD-Japan Izmir Intercultural Friendship Association, and delivered a presentation titled “Japan and Metal Music” and ranked in first place.
IUE STUDENTS’ CAREER ADVENTURE
Students of Izmir University of Economics took the first steps towards their future in the career days. 22 companies with 52 specialists guided the students who will enter the business world at the Career Days and Career Fair held by IUE Career Guidance Centre. Officials of leading national and international companies in Turkey shared their experiences with the students at the event that took place at IUE Conference Hall. Students got a chance to have job interviews and apply for internships.
CHILDREN’S AND YOUNG ADULTS LITERATURE DAY
Izmir University of Economics hosted the 1st Children's and Young Adults Literature Day organized by Aegean Contemporary Education Foundation (ECEV). Berrin Ertürk, CEO of ECEV, stated that they aimed to motivate children and youth to read and get interested in literature, and develop their skills to be able to choose the right books to read. She remarked that more than 300 teachers, authors and literature lovers attended the daylong event.
TWO MEDALS FOR IUE STUDENT CHEF
Nejat Güner, a Freshman at IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management, came in second place in the category of “Modern Turkish Cuisine” at the 13th International Istanbul Gastronomy Festival held by the Cooks and Chefs Federation of Turkey. Güner also came in third place with his Artichoke Pizza at “Student Chefs Pizza Contest”. Güner was awarded 1 silver and 1 bronze medal at the contest held at Istanbul TUYAP Fair.
‘AWAKEN THE COOKIE MONSTER IN YOU!’
High School student chefs will awaken their cookie monsters at the “Gastronomy Contest” organized by Izmir University of Economics- Department of Culinary Arts and Management. High school students in Izmir will be able to attend the contest with a cookie recipe which did not receive any awards in any other contest before. The deadline for the contest is April 3, and the jury will do the tasting on April 11, 2015.
TURKISH FILM INDUSTRY ON THE SILVER SCREEN
Actor Mert Fırat stated that people did not prefer to go to the award winning movies in Turkey, receiving awards meant sense of humiliation and insult, and the cinema had a changing and thought provoking effect in addition to entertainment. ‘Bir Varmış Bir Yokmuş’ (Once Upon a Time) film team was the guest of IUE students. Director İlksen Başarır, Producer Hazan Dut, and Actor Mert Fırat answered the questions of the students at the ‘Current Issues of Turkish Film Industry” titled panel co-organized by IUE Faculty of Communication and IUE Promotion and Corporate Marketing Communication Directorate. It was stated that producing community based films got more difficult lately.
