FUTURE OF NAZILLI IS AT IUE
A protocol was signed between Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Nuri Arslan, Chairman of Executive Board of Nazilli Chamber of Commerce, to ensure 15% discount in annual tuition fees of Izmir University of Economics for Nazilli youth. First degree blood relatives of members of Nazilli Chamber of Commerce qualified for education discount at IUE as part of the protocol signed at IUE Board of Trustees Meeting Hall. Along with President Demirtaş and Arslan, Gürdal Yüzügüler, Council President of Nazilli Chamber of Commerce, Hüsnü Erturan, Member of Executive Board of Nazilli Chamber of Commerce, and IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen attended the protocol ceremony.
THE KEY TO SUCCESS, HEALTHY EATING
As students are having stressful days due to mid-term exams these days, the experts suggest that they need to watch out their eating habits in order to focus on long and intense days better. Asst. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Fırtına Karagonlar, Lecturer at IUE Department of Food Engineering, mentioned that students opted for chocolates and energy drinks for quick energy; however these had negative impacts on health and exam performances in the long run.
ROMANIAN CULTURAL DAYS
Romanian Cultural Days, which was organized by Istanbul ”Dimitrie Cantemir” Romanian Cultural Centre in order to celebrate the National Day of Romania started at Izmir University of Economics. Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector, Cerasela Nicolas, Consul General of Romania in Izmir, and Dr. Dragoş C. Mateescu, Lecturer at IUE Department of Political Science and International Relations attended the organization that took place at IUE Conference Hall.
IZMIR BILIMPARK WILL ILLUMINATE SCIENCE
Fikri Işık, Minister of Science, Industry, and Technology, attended a ground breaking ceremony for the already in progress construction of Izmir Science and Technology Park, Technology Development Zone (Izmir Bilimpark) which was established under the leadership of Izmir University of Economics and Izmir Chamber of Commerce. The Minister also attended the opening ceremony of 107 factories, and the building of Izmir Bilimpark was named after Minister Fikri Işık.
IUE RANKED IN SECOND PLACE
Nogay Dökmeci, Member of IUE Sailing Club and Turkish National Sailing Team, has ranked in second place in Laser Turkey Championship in the category of Laser Radial Youth among 30 competitors. Fenerbahçe Sailing Club ranked in first place, and Galatasaray Sailing Club ranked in third place at the competition Nogay Dökmeci, freasman at IUE Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, has attended.
MANISA WILL THRIVE WITH IUE STUDENTS
A protocol was signed between Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Yaşar Coşkun, Chairman of Executive Board of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to brighten the future of Manisa youth. First degree blood relatives of members of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and District Chambers of Commerce qualified for 15% discount in annual tuition fees of Izmir University of Economics at the Educatürk Education Fair ceremony that took place in Manisa. Along with President Demirtaş and Coşkun, Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector, Hayati Dolman, Council President of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Ali Bankoğlu, Vice Chairman of Executive Board of Manisa Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the ceremony.
INTERNATIONAL TOUCH TO THE POTTERY
Menemen pottery will be making an international debut through collaboration of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) and Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Menemen Potters Association. An International Pottery Workshop (KULP) took place with the participation of Polish and Turkish students in order to promote Menemen pottery worldwide and get pottery the design and identity it deserved. Students, who visited the workshops in Menemen, brought back some clay and created their designs at IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.
IUE RANKED IN SECOND PLACE AT WORLD CITIES CHALLENGE
“The Floating Docks”, which was designed as a proposal to diversify the use of coastlines of Turkey, became in second place at the “2014 World Cities Day Challenge” which was co-organized by UN-Habitat and The Guardian. The dock, which was designed by Gudjon Erlendsson, Can Sucuoğlu, and Elif Ensari, Lecturers at Izmir University of Economics-Department of Architecture and Ertunç Hünkar, Graduate of Izmir University of Economics-Department of Architecture, with the support of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, competed against 36 countries. Porto Alegre, Brazil became in first place, in third place, there was a three-way tie between Bogoto, Colombia, and London and Nottingham, England.
PRICES WILL GO UP
It has been stated that nowadays, where margin of natural gas in electricity production exceeded 50%’s, electricity and natural gas prices will see fluctuations with price rise decisions as the winter has just started. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Efe Biresselioğlu, Head of IUE Department of Sustainable Energy, who commented on the “Electricity and Natural Gas Prices” statistics for the first period announced by Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), pointed that they expected a rise in electricity and natural gas prices.
