IZMIR WILL REJOIN WITH ‘KORDON’
Izmir Bay is waiting to re-join with Kordon Passenger Boat. The boat, which carried Izmir people across the sea for many years, is going to get a new face with the new project by the lecturers and students within Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Design Research and Application Centre (EKOTAM). With this project, interior design of the boat, which was not in use for a long time, will be renewed completely. Kordon Passenger Boat will become the place for holding wedding parties, dinner parties and reuniting the citizens with the sea.
EDUCATION FOR KUŞADASI YOUTH
A protocol was signed between Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Serdar Akdoğan, Chairman of Kuşadası Chamber of Commerce, to ensure 15% discount in annual tuition fees of Izmir University of Economics for Kuşadası youth. First degree blood relatives of members of Kuşadası Chamber of Commerce qualified for education discount at IUE as part of the protocol signed at IUE Board of Trustees Meeting Hall. Along with President Demirtaş and Akdoğan, Mahmut Öztaş, Council President of Kuşadası Chamber of Commerce, and IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen attended the protocol ceremony.
CORPORATE AWARENESS TRAINING AT IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
154 IUE Administrative Staff, who successfully completed the “Corporate Awareness and Rules of Behaviour’’ training organized by Izmir University of Economics Rectorate, received their certificates with a ceremony. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen awarded the certificates to trainers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülem Atabay, Asst. Prof. Dr. Burak Çapraz, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Nazlı Ünnü, and Prof. Dr. Jülide Kesken and the administrative personnel.
THEY WILL LEARN THE ART OF CUISINE IN FRANCE
The students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Culinary Arts and Management, prepared a “Welcome to Winter” dinner with the chefs of Les Toques Blanches du Monde” in Lyon, France, known as the Capital City of Chefs. The students prepared meals and dessert under the guidance of French Michelin Starred, famous Chef Joseph Viola and Cake and Chocolate Master French Chef Sebastian Bouillet at IUE Cam Restaurant. During the event, Chef Joseph Viola announced that 23 students who applied to perform internship in France were accepted and that they would be able to receive training at the most famous restaurants of France for 3 months. Both the students and Ekrem Demirtaş, President of IUE Board of Trustees, welcomed the news with great joy.
PROTOCOL FOR THE FUTURE OF THE YOUTH
The youth will take firm steps towards future thanks to the support provided for Izmir University of Economics (IUE). A protocol was signed between Ekrem Demirtaş, Chairman of Executive Board of Izmir Chamber of Commerce and President of IUE Board of Trustees, and Adnan Saka, Chairman of Aliağa Chamber of Commerce, Adnan İnanır, Chairman of Bayındır Chamber of Commerce, Fikret Ürger, Chairman of Bergama Chamber of Commerce, Yılmaz Güral, Menemen Chamber of Commerce, Kasım Sevin, Ödemiş Chamber of Commerce, Koray Yolcu, Selçuk Chamber of Commerce, Hüseyin Çapkınoğlu, Tire Chamber of Commerce, Abdulvahap Olgun, Torbalı Chamber of Commerce, and Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen, IUE Rector.
MATH WILL GUIDE THE VEHICLES
Vehicle routing will become more functional via mathematical formulas. Thanks to the project developed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gözde Yazgı Tütüncü, Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Department of Mathematics, the service, which is used for providing goods for many customers from several depots, will become more cost-efficient, faster, and eco-friendly. TUBITAK funded project will initially be tested for EDAK Ecza Koop vehicles.
GOLD MEDAL TO IZMIR UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
Prof. Dr. Alexander Van Eck, Lecturer at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, was awarded gold medal by Dutch Teylers Community for his article on how history should be used in order to understand art. For the first time, a scientist from Izmir qualified for this award, which was given to scientists contributing to the development of humanity since 1779.
THE MEMORY OF THE FUTURE AT ISTANBUL
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, attended the “Gelecek Artık Eskisi Gibi Değil (The Future Is Not What It Used To Be)” themed 2nd Istanbul Design Biennial Academic Program, which was organized by Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation (IKSV), with their digital exhibition project titled #flashblackbox”.
IZMIR WILL GAIN ‘IDENTITY’
Izmir’s visual identity will be discussed at a workshop organized by Izmir University of Economics, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Visual Communication Design and led by Stefano Cardini, Course Leader of Domus Academy Visual Brand Design. Designers will discuss Izmir at the workshop that will start on 26 November at 10.00 at D Block and end on 28 November.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDINGS
"Air Conditioning in Architectural Design – Breathing Structures Seminar”, co-organized by Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Manufacturers’ Association (ISKID), the Association of the Aegean Industrialists and Businessmen of Refrigeration (ESSIAD), and IUE Department of Architecture took place at Izmir University of Economics.
