THE ASSOCIATION OF TANGERINE PRODUCERS WAS PRESENTED IN CANADA
Asst. Prof. Dr. Işık Özge Yumurtacı, Asst. Prof. Dr. Bengü Sevil Oflaç and Asst. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Örten Tuğrul, Lecturers of Izmir University of Economics Department of Business Administration, presented as an academic paper titled, “A case study on sustainable business models: The Association of Seferihisar Tangerine Producers” at the Annual Macromarketing Conference in Toronto, Canada, one of the most recognized conferences worldwide. The paper is about a business model of the association of Seferihisar Tangerine Producers, which was co-established by Seferihisar municipality and Tangerine Producers.
HISTORICAL FURNITURES SMILE AT THE 21ST CENTURY
Turkey’s modern furniture history comes to light. The furniture, which we see on movies, or at our grandmothers’ houses that silently reflect history, is being traced by the lecturers at IUE Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. The Project titled, “Understanding, Archiving, and Displaying the Modern Furniture Design in Turkey” holds the furniture that made it to present, which were built in 1930’s, 1950’s, and 1960’s Turkey, under the microscope. An exhibition and digital archive will be offered as part of the project where interested parties will get a chance to examine the constructions of the furniture.
IUE CHEFS CREATE FLAVOURS THANKS TO THEIR EDUCATION
Instructors and graduates of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Culinary Arts and Management joined hands in business world to present successful examples of international cuisine. Instructor Chef Melodi Sezener of IUE Department of Culinary Arts and Management, and IUE graduates young chefs Mehmet Can Altunay and Onur Can Bulat, serve the best examples of both local and world cuisine to the guests at Lavanta Restaurant in Alaçatı.
‘CONSIDER LIVING RATHER THAN HOUSING IN URBAN TRANSFORMATION’
Attention drawn to urban transformation projects, which are offered as salvation to metropolitans with unplanned urbanization that are not earthquake proof, focusing on housing rather than living. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çınar Atay, Head of IUE Department of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, indicated that urban transformation projects needed to focus on building strong and aesthetic buildings for urban people rather than focusing on building cheap housing.

It has been stressed that the New Turkish Trade Law (TTK) would have tremendous effects on business world, and would bring many changes to our daily lives. Prof. Dr. Serdar Özkan, IUE Head of Department of Business Administration, who reviewed the new law after it became effective, pointed out that there was still so much to do regarding the implementation of the law, and especially the family businesses were motivated to become institutionalized.

Studies report that people use their right side to dream about the biggest, the most impressive, or valuable objects. According to a research conducted by Izmir University of Economics, Department of Psychology, in an elephant-mouse pair, the subjects imagined elephant, with a great physical appearance, on the right side. The winner was a scary shark in shark-whale pair, and in fly-ladybug pair, the subjects imagined the cute ladybug on their right side. The research indicated that the left hemisphere of our brains, which is responsible for right visual area, had an efficient role in perceiving the objects emotionally.
