‘DINING TOGETHER STRENGHTENS RELATIONSHIPS’
The psychologists analysed the origins of social dining such as business meals, cocktail parties, receptions, and wedding dinners. The factors reflecting on today’s culture of hunting and dining together since the dawn of mankind have been revealed by the psychologists. Students of IUE Department of Psychology revealed that individuals dining together reinforced their success and strengthened their relationships. The 48 participants played a computer game simultaneously and found themselves as hunters and navigators in Africa in the early ages.

IUE started its consultancy services with 15 firms in plastic sector as part of Communiqué on Supporting the Development of International Competitiveness by Ministry of Economy.
LA FONTAINE SPIRIT OPENED THE DOORS TO A NEW UNIVERSE
La Fontaine’s fables created a brand new universe. Aylin Karaman, graduate of IUE Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Visual Communication Design, used fables in her senior project and conveyed the morals of La Fontaine to the youth. La Fontaine, who featured animals by giving them human qualities such as verbal communication in order to teach a moral lesson to human beings, sprang to life in Odron universe thanks to the illustrations and story by Karaman.
STRONGER SOLAR PANELS
Solar energy becomes an important renewable source of energy to make the world, that is rapidly getting polluted, a much cleaner place. Izmir University of Economics (IUE), Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences developed and implemented a project that allows an efficient use of solar energy. The outcomes proved the success of the project. While setting up solar panels, not only the heat factor and clouds, but humidity, and speed and direction of wind will also be taken into consideration.
TURKISH LITERATURE BECOMES “ANGLICIZED” WITH THE DISTINCTION OF IUE
Turkish literature springs to life in other languages. Nilgün Dungan, Lecturer at IUE Department of Translation and Interpretation, translates exquisite examples of Turkish literature into English and introduces this cultural wealth to whole world.
Nilgün Dungan attended the Cunda International Workshop for Translators of Turkish Literature for the first time in 2007 as part of the “Translation and Publication Grant Programme of Turkey (TEDA)” supported by The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkish Republic. Following that, Dungan started to take active role in translating Turkish literature into English.
IUE WILL BUILD TURKEY’S NETWORK IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Efe Biresselioğlu, IUE Head of Department of Sustainable Energy, has been chosen to establish a special unit in Turkey as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. In addition to Asst. Prof. Dr. Biresselioğlu, Prof. Dr. Tamer Bilgiç and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilgün Cılız of Bosporus University will also take part in Turkey special unit studies to be established in Mediterranean Region.
IUE DEPARTMENT OF LOGISTICS IS TRANSNATIONAL
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Logistics Management is opening the doors to its students to study abroad. İsmail Karabaş, a graduate student at IUE Logistics Management Master Program qualified to be admitted to a Ph.D. program at Washington State University, USA with scholarship.

IUE Vocational School provides employment for students and prepares their careers while they are still receiving education. In addition to Justice, Accounting and Tax Applications, Banking and Insurance, Foreign Trade, Radio and TV Programming, and Alternative and Renewable Energy Technologies Programs, IUE Vocational School will be welcoming its first students in Occupational Health and Security and Computer Programming fields.
