Democracy is the confirmation of lawful conduct
The importance of national values and democracy were addressed at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) as part of the third anniversary of the malicious coup attempt on July 15. “Democracy; The Past, Present, and Future”, and “History of Turkish Democracy” titled panels were held at IUE Conference Hall as part of the observance of July 15 the Democracy and National Unity Day with the participation of students, academic and administrative staff.
Izmir University of Economics ranks first among 25 universities
Barış Sadıç, senior from Izmir University of Economics Department of Translation and Interpretation, who came in first place at the “Young Translators Competition” where 56 students from 25 universities attended, received his award. Sadıç, who was given his award by Faruk Kaymakcı, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs, said, “I am very happy to see that my hard work paid off.”
Special event to observe July 15 The Democracy and National Unity Day
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) prepared a special event as part of the third anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt in order to draw attention to the importance of national values and democracy. “Democracy; The Past, Present, and Future”, and “Ataturk and the Democracy” titled panels will be held as part of the observance of July 15 the Democracy and National Unity Day.
Vocational training for Syrian women
18 Syrian women, who fled their country and came to Izmir because of an ongoing civil war in their country, are trying to make a new life and they just got the chance to do at Izmir University of Economics. The Syrian women started to learn how to cook dishes such as “tarhana çorbası (sundried food made of curd, tomato and flour)”, “imam bayıldı (eggplant cooked in olive oil with onions, garlic and tomatoes)”, “hünkar beğendi (lamb stew served on mashed eggplant)” unique to Turkish Cuisine as part of the project initiated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations with the purpose of increasing intercultural communication.
Izmir University of Economics bids farewell to graduates
One thousand 213 students received their diplomas at the second of the graduation ceremonies at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). Selami Özpoyraz, President of Izmir Chamber of Commerce Council, who attended the ceremony, stated that IUE graduates made an impression nationwide with their achievements. President Özpoyraz said, “I am most certain that we will be reading about your success stories in business life in the near future”.
Izmir University of Economics department of architecture receives first prize
Students of Department of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FFAD), Izmir University of Economics (IUE), one of Turkey’s most successful architecture departments, came in first place at the Shell Design Competition organized as part of the 13th Computational Design Research in Architecture Symposium. Sophomores Tunç Çokuysal, Canberk Kaplan, and Barış Dondar, from IUE Department of Architecture, brought a grand prize to Izmir with their design called the “Rib” at the contest held under the theme of “Overlaps and Crossings”.

Life lessons from president Ozgener
The 2018-2019 ‘’Academic Year Graduation Ceremonies’’, with more than five thousand audience, 1213 graduates, and 20 thousand followers watching on social media, started with good news.
The ceremony started with the Rector, Prof. Murat AŞKAR’s welcome speech, and some of the audience had to watch from giant screens, as the amphitheater was over- crowded.
Mahmut ÖZGENER, Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, and President of Izmir University of Economics Board of Trustees, shared the 4 stages for success and his life experiences with the newly graduates.
Music hackathon at Izmir University of Economics
Music and technology will come together at Izmir University of Economics (IUE). 40 students from Portugal, Latvia, Romania, and Turkey will develop new entrepreneurial ideas about music at an event hosted by IUE. Students will participate in a 48-hour “Music Hackathon” based on art for development theme, and focus on a specific subject. The event, which also aims for youth to get to know different cultures, will end on July 9.
Dedication to save lives
IUE “paramedics” learn about saving patients, responding to emergencies, and transporting to hospitals, on the field. Students of Paramedic Program, Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE), who take part in real life rescue scenarios, participated in a training drill where they had to rescue an injured person from a mountain. Students responded to the scene of the accident, and moved the patient to a safer place.
