Enthusiastic graduation at Izmir University of Economics
79 students, who completed their master’s and doctoral education at Izmir University of Economics (IUE), received their diplomas at an enthusiastic graduation ceremony. In his speech, IUE Rector, Prof. Murat Aşkar pointed that thanks to the high-quality education offered by the University, they were able to raise well-equipped individuals with high self-confidence, who can develop solutions to subjects with different perspectives. Prof. Aşkar said, “I strongly believe that our graduates will become the future leaders and scientists needed for a stronger and more developed Turkey”.
Winner of first prize: izmir university of economics
The “2019 Young Translators Competition”, held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate for EU Affairs, took place in Istanbul. 92 students from 25 universities attended the competition held in three languages (56 in English, 20 in German, and 16 in French). Barış Sadıç, senior from Izmir University of Economics Department of Translation and Interpretation, came in first place at the “2019 Young Translators Competition” where 56 students from 25 universities attended.
Mobile app for Dyslexia
Entrepreneurial students of Izmir University of Economics (IUE) came up with solutions for people with “dyslexia”, a common learning difficulty that can cause problems with reading, writing and spelling. The “DysApp” titled application, developed by Esra Ablak, Deniz Öztürk, Büşra Bektaş, and Öykü Demirhan, students from IUE Department of Psychology, and İnan Evin, student from IUE Department of Software Engineering, will help children with dyslexia to increase their reading and writing speeds, and minimize the error rates. The app brought in third prize at TUSIAD’s “Bu Gençlikte İş Var!” contest.
An international glance at the tastes of Izmir
Local tastes of Izmir; “boyoz (a type of Turkish pastry)”, “Izmir köfte (meatballs)”, “artichoke”, “mastic flavored cookies”, “çöp şiş (small pieces of grilled meat on wooden skewers)” turned into art, and qualified to be exhibited at an international event. Prof. Elvan Özkavruk Adanır, Head of Izmir University of Economics Department of Fashion and Textile Design, and Assoc. Prof. Jovita Sakalauskaite, prepared 35 dishes unique to Izmir, with textile art.
IUE logısticians get full mark for their projects from the business world
Students of Department of Logistics Management, Faculty of Business, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) are developing projects for university-industry collaboration, and coming up with solution recommendations for logistic concerns of companies.
FFAD 2018-2019 graduation exhibitions & fashion show
Seniors of Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) completed their education journey with a graduation fashion show. Students displayed their collections of ready-to-wear clothing they got inspired by the German Bauhaus School to celebrate the school’s 100th anniversary.
Children’s dream toys became report card gifts
Students of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Izmir University of Economics (IUE) turned the dream toys of students into reality. The dream toy drawings of 18 students from Bayraklı 100. Yıl Elementary School were turned into three-dimensional designs as part of the “Toy Design Project”.
Kindergarteners learn about healthy living
Kindergartners entered an enchanted world thanks to “Neşeli Dere (Cheerful Creek)” titled musical performed by the students of Child Development Program of Vocational School of Health Services, Izmir University of Economics (IUE). IUE Child Development Program students reached out to almost 500 kindergartners across Izmir with their musical about socialization, healthy eating, and dangers of excessive use of technology on health.
Qualified personnel for tourism
A collaboration protocol has been signed between Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School Tourism and Hotel Management Program and Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB). Based on the protocol, students will have priority in performing their internship at travel agencies and work after they graduate.
Power of dancing
Students of Izmir University of Economics came together with their visually impaired peers for dancing purposes. Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Vocational School of Health Services, Physiotherapy Program students and visually impaired young people received training on Bachata dancing for eight weeks. The dancers displayed their dancing skills at the end of the training with a performance.
